The "Thunk-a-phone" is an aerophone, a set of upright tubes which when struck create a specific tuned note. The air trapped within the tubes resonates at a particular frequency which registers as an individual musical tone. The Thunk-a-phone is in the lower register of the percussion family of instruments. The tubes are struck with fixed paddles operated by springs contained in tube sleeves. The paddles and shafts are rubber coated welded steel. The tubes are made of heavy-duty 6" Schedule 40 PVC pipe. Maintenance of the Thunk-a-phone is minimal.
